This picture is based on a scene from the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. During a rather archetypal 2nd act, the heroes suffer their first defeat. Their brother is badly injured and may not survive, and their father has been captured. They retreat to an old house in the countryside to lick their wounds. Despite the film being rather low rated by critics and full of cartoon violence, it does have some truly beautiful moments, and I was always impressed by how alive and believable the turtles appeared, in an age before CGI. I always wanted a picture of this that would be big enough to go on a wall, but I could never find one, so eventually I decided to just paint my own.
