Some details from the Mortal Kombat painting, which shows the secret character "Smoke" hiding in the trees. Interestingly, my Smoke is actually based on a photograph of the comic book artist Nar, who created this ninja costume for a Comic-Con event. As Smoke is a hidden character in the arcade game, I thought it would be a nice touch to have Nar play the hidden character in his own competition. It was quite challenging to blend a photograph seamlessly into the painting without it looking superimposed or out of place, so while I kept the pose, most of the figure had to be carefully painted over in order to match the lighting and style of the painting.
